You drive like hell with gripping hands
your eyes a focused pair
mind’s a swirling mess of plan
you don’t wanna share
know you have to leave today
to keep the madness down
relief just crashes over you
tho barely out of town
You’re face betrays a broken time
promise never kept
wonder if you’ll ever shine
why you never wept
you had to stay between the lines
to make it through the nights
now everything you want
is in your sights
So you drive
with your head
leaning with your heart
you can pull away
in the night
you scream
make your getaway
maybe you should stay
so you drive
drive
you drive in the night
just to keep you alive
for another day
make your getaway
and drive
The light is gone behind your eyes
they tell you every day
the color in your smile
Is grey and washed away
one more chance is all you got
before the walls cave in
you take a breath, look ahead
and begin
So you drive
with your head
leaning with your heart
you can pull away
in the night
you scream
make your getaway
maybe you should stay
so you drive
drive
you drive in the night
just to keep you alive
for another day
make your getaway
and drive
and drive
So you drive
with your head
leaning with your heart
you can pull away
in the night
you scream
make your getaway
maybe you should stay
so you drive
drive
you drive
you drive
you drive
drive
You drive in the night
just to keep you alive
for another day
make your getaway
and drive
For the singer and actor Cheyenne Jackson from New York the Drehstrom Filmproduktion produced an animated music video for his song "Drive".
The video follows a drawn version of Jackson driving through various landscapes—from city streets to highways to rural surroundings. During his journey, he is eventually pursued by a police car. In the final scene, he drives toward the setting sun, a sequence—along with the colors of traffic lights and car headlights—that is the only color representation in the otherwise black-and-white video.
Jackson deliberately chose not to appear in the video in person to keep the focus on the song's message. He explained, "I wanted to write a song about maintaining momentum in your life and having the strength to leave a situation that you know in your heart is bad for you. It ended on a melancholy note, but ultimately hopeful and optimistic, just like me."
"Drive" was released on May 10, 2012, and is part of Jackson's album I'm Blue, Skies. The song was written by Cheyenne Jackson and Stephen "Stevie" Aiello and produced by Thomas "Tawgs" Salter.
The music video was first presented at the Vienna Life Ball in May 2012 and simultaneously released on YouTube.
